“We are producing about 55,000 tons of citrus per year and expect to increase that to 76,000 tons of citrus in 2020, for a total of 100,000 tons. This includes other fruit that we grow,” said Estuardo Masias, Jr., referring to expectations for production in the coming years.
La Calera has a complete turnkey operation which includes every aspect of the production cycle, from growing, packing, and shipping to storage and distribution.
La Calera’s citrus season is quite long, starting in February and continuing through early October.
“We grow several varieties, starting in February with Satsumas (Okitsu variety) and continuing with Satsuma Owari, then Clementines, Minneolas, Honey Tangerines, and W. Murcott varieties,” according to Mr. Masias.
In addition to critus La Calera also produces grapes, starting in October and continuing through January. Hass avocados harvest from May through July. Mango production begins in December and runs through March with three varieties harvested: Haden, Tommy Atkins, and Kent. And in the near future, pomegranates will be shipped to the US between March and May.
La Calera has numerous farm and packing house certifications including, among others, Global Gap, ETI, BASC Certification, TNC, and BRC, ensuring the quality and food safety of all La Calera products.
